CPA Premises Planning
In June, we let you know that Council had set up a Premises Working Group to look at the future of the CPA’s premises at Great Russell Street, ahead of our lease expiring at the end of 2027.
Since then, we have looked carefully at the realistic options: staying at Great Russell Street, moving elsewhere, or purchasing premises of our own.
Our preferred option is to secure a new lease at Great Russell Street, provided we can agree the right terms with Camden Council.
Contemporary Ceramics is an important part of the CPA. It provides exhibition and selling opportunities for members, introduces new audiences to contemporary ceramics, helps build partnerships and gives the CPA a permanent and highly visible presence in central London.
We have looked seriously at the alternatives. Moving would involve significant cost and disruption, with no guarantee that we could retain the visibility and opportunities our current location provides. Buying premises remains an attractive longer-term ambition, but isn’t currently realistic within the time or financial resources available before our lease expires.
Our priority is therefore to secure the future of Great Russell Street while continuing to develop the gallery and make the most of what this location can offer the CPA and its members.
This sits alongside other work to strengthen the CPA. We have also been reviewing our membership offer, professional recognition, opportunities for members, and how we promote and raise the profile of makers. We’ll share a separate update in October on the refreshed benefits and opportunities we are developing across the different membership categories.
