The Craft Pottery Charitable Trust
The Craft Pottery Charitable Trust is a small independent charity with strong links to the CPA which supports developmental and educational activities associated with ceramic activity across Britain.
It was set up in 1991 and for over three decades potters and ceramicists, have benefited from their annual grant programme. From individuals beginning their careers to those with years of experience, people have been given support to enable them to carry out a specific activity or project.
It also awards the annual ‘Emmanuel Cooper Prize’ at Ceramic Art London, where a particular piece of work is selected as being an example of excellence by a UK Museum for their contemporary ceramics collection. Recipients have included the Victoria and Albert Museum who selected the work of Patricia Shone, York Art Gallery who chose the work of Annie Turner, The Hepworth who now have a piece made by Ashraf Hanna and Ulster Museum whose choice was the work of Matthew Horne.
The funds to support activities over the years have been raised through donations and personal bequests for which we are very thankful.
The CPCT also remains grateful for the support of all those working in clay who have generously donated work in the past to enable the raising of funds through tombolas at CPA events.
The Charity’s Trustees are: Felicity Aylieff, Kyra Cane (Chair), Viscount Eccles, Chris Keenan, Nigel Lambert (Grants Secretary), Nicholas Lees and Clare Twomey.
Kyra Cane
Chair of the Board of Trustees
Kyra is a Fellow of the CPA and works from her studio at the Harley Foundation in Nottinghamshire. She has a wide range of academic experience in the ceramic field having run, taught and examined courses for over three decades.
Her precarious porcelain vessels explore the limits of material and process to produce forms reminiscent of the wilderness spaces that are her inspiration. Practice is informed by a strong visual language underpinned by drawing.
